Help! We don't get it!

We really don't! It's not funny....we always get the funny. We are scared that this time we don't.

Please someone out there explain this to us:

Sam: It's probably a dumbwaiter.
All these old houses had them.
Dean: Know-it-all.
Sam: What?
Dean: What?
Sam: You said…
Dean: What?
Sam: Never mind

-----

Also, we are always, always supporting Supernatural where we can, but the last episode "Family Remains" has us wondering why. We usually don't review this glorious show on this crazy blog as we like to center our attention on the things that go on around the show. But we are not sure if you have noticed it lately: Less and less seems to be going on around the show. Or are we just too old and too busy to notice?

Since Dean came back from hell things haven't been the same, that's quite obvious and you don't need a degree in rocket science to figure it out. And although the show has been as funny and as scary (suicidal teddy bear?) as ever, still there is something lurking there in the darkness....and we can't tell if it is the threat of loosing it.

We are desperately trying to find TV ratings for episode 9x11 and can't find them anywhere (if you do have them would you be so kind to let us know?) and we fear they are not too good.

Also, the forums we have been to aren't too kind to this episode either. Some people like it, but more so people don't and THAT is very rare when it comes to their favorite show Supernatural. Whatever Eric Kripke does, it is respected by his loyal fans and they are never short of praise. However, when things go wrong you also know, because fans will have and state their opinion.

For example jody45 says on the cw lounge
Another episode of wallpaper Sam and angsty Dean. Enough with the emo scenes on the hood of the impala. These writers are really lacking in originality. Also, do they have to give Dean even more to feel guilty about. He should be in a straight jacket by now curled up in a fetal position in a locked ward forever. They should never have gone this far with the hell thing if all they can do is have Dean emote on the car every few episodes. At least have him act out the PTSD once in a while. That would be a heck of a lot more interesting than "Sam, I'm a monster". "You were in hell, Dean". As it is, we got one episode where he was drinking too much and a few eye flashes. Wow, I guess Hell isn't all that bad after all. And don't even get me started on Sam. Way to waste a great actor on this show. Why does it always have to be all about Dean.
However kelliesimpson posted on Twitter
@lucky_naki I thought it was the best ep in a long time, the show has been flagging for me recently

While Pizzapixie says

This episode was unoriginal, overdone and chockfull of Desperation Dean and Wallpaper Sam. The weepy confessions from Dean at the end of the episodes has lessened my sympathy for him. It angers me that now Dean is trying to redeem himself by saving as many people as he can, just as Sam did last season. Please, get over it. Hell is Hell.

So says LivingForTV that he/she

LOVED IT (...) So, sorry all of you who don't buy Dean and Sam's humanity, it's just humanity. And considering how easy it is for us to change once we know why and what we did was wrong... There is hope enough for all of us.

I was really, really scared the whole episode. I kept worrying about where everyone was because I couldn't bear the thought of Dean breaking apart if he didn't manage to save them. Good job!

and Tina Charles writes for TVguide.com

Yes, "Family Remains" took me back to a time when the show was less about the mythology and more about the boys digging around for a case and then protecting a family or an individual from whatever evil thing-of-the-week. It was nice to see Sam and Dean do whatever they could to protect this family that was already in a lot of pain even before they got to this "haunted house."
but also admits that something was missing:

As much as I liked this case-filled episode, three things were missing for me: 1) I usually jot down at least half a page of great one-liners. Not so much this time around. 2) The music. And 3) I'm in need of some serious Sam emoting. Because of the hiatus it's been a while. And on that note...

I know we just had almost a two-month break from this show, but in "Heaven and Hell" Dean confessed what happened to him when he was in the pit. And it was crushing. And emotional. And awesome. Having another roadside confession in "Family Remains" was great, but it also felt just a little too soon, especially at the end of another episode. I definitely wanted it to happen again, but not this soon. I'm digging Dean's behavior right now because it shows that he's being affected by what happened to him in hell. But we were only told they'd been on the road for the last month saving people and killing things, we never actually saw any of it. So I think that if this reveal happened in three or four standalone-type episodes it would have carried even more weight. Having said that, it was a powerful confession, one I will be processing for a while. I just feel it was too soon to hear this after the bomb that was dropped on us at the end of "Heaven and Hell."

Again, we see Dean turning down food. I love that we know something's wrong with him when he can't eat.

Well, well, well! Isn't this what we have been saying all along? We are sure it's all down to Pie :)

  1. Re: the "We're sorry to leave you 'whut'?" - was it supposed to be 'hanging' - leave you hanging? Just a guess. And it just came to me then when i was thinking about the dumb waiter thing.
Didn't get it. Thought it was just Snide!Dean having fun with the ol' sounding-similar-to-rude-words-gag until Sam went "but you said..."
Then I didn't really get it, either. Mind you, have to watch it all over again to make sure. :)

I liked it. I did. It was like season one all over again - with added Emo!Dean. Which, tragically, I don't go for. My favourite is obviously KickAss!Dean, with Evil!Dean in a very close second. :)

P.S. Am brewing up a post. Honest. Just having a think first....
